You Are My Sunshine - ASL

Ideal for Infant, Toddler, Preschool/Pre-K

Young boy smiling and sitting on the floor playing a guitar.

Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.

Adults: Watch this video on your own to learn how to sign the words to “You Are My Sunshine” in American Sign Language (ASL). Once you have the hang of it, sign to your infant while singing! Singing to your infant is a wonderful way to introduce new language, build listening skills, and bond with your baby.

Why is ASL important for infants? Signing is a unique way to communicate with infants before they are able to speak words on their own — they will typically start producing the signs you’ve taught them around 8 to 9 months, providing nonverbal babies with a valuable communication tool.
