Who Is This?

Ideal for Infant, Toddler

A young woman holds and tickles a young baby.

This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to develop a sense of identity and belonging.

Materials Needed:

  • None

Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.

Directions:

  1. Sit with your child and say the following poem. You can also make a tune and sing it if you prefer. Cover your head with a hat, a small cloth, or even simply cover your eyes as you speak. Who is this? Can anybody tell? This is…mommy! (or daddy, grandma, etc.) (Remove the hat or uncover your eyes with a lot of enthusiasm and energy.) Hi, mommy! And we like her very well.
  2. Repeat the poem, this time covering your child’s head or eyes (if they’re comfortable).
  3. Repeat the poem again with other family members, friends, or even stuffed animals. You can also use this song to learn family members’ names while looking at photos.
