Sticky Web Game

Ideal for Preschool/Pre-K, School-Age

Young girl smiling and wearing fairy wings.

Pre-School and School Age children enjoy a fun indoor throwing activity, without the risk of breaking things.

Materials Needed:

  • Painters tape
  • Scissors
  • A variety of paper

Directions:

Build your web between 2 doorways or over an archway. Have fun making all sorts of different shapes. You can build it at any level you want. Make sure the sticky side of the tape all faces the same direction, and the direction from which you will be throwing. Once your web is finished, crumple up your paper into “flies.” You can use a variety of different papers. Some will stick and others will not. It’s fun to make predictions of which “flies” get captured!

Questions & Provocations:

  • Which paper fly do you think will stick the easiest?
  • Which one do you think won’t stick at all?
  • What do you think will happen if you throw the paper really close? Or really far away?

Extensions:

Make a graph and keep record of which papers stick and which ones don’t. Do you see any patterns? You can also test to see at what distance a paper fly sticks, and then move backwards with each throw to see if it still sticks.
