Let's Play

Pictures Small and Tall

Ideal for Preschool/Pre-K, School-Age

A young girl takes a photo of a garden on a smart phone.

This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to demonstrate flexibility in thoughts, actions, and behaviors.

Materials Needed:

  • Camera
  • Drawing materials and paper

Participants: This activity is intended for independent play, adult/child interaction, or 2 or more participants/players.

  1. Go for a walk or go outside, if possible. Discuss what the world might look like to an ant. How about a bird? Or an elephant?
  2. Encourage your child to take photos or draw pictures from unusual perspectives, such as low to the ground like an insect, or from standing on a chair or sitting in a high place. Try taking a picture of the same object from multiple perspectives. What’s the same? What’s different? What if you take a picture close up? How about from faraway?
  3. Make a display of your photos and drawings.
