
This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging experimentation and observation.
Participants: This activity is intended for a child to experiment – adult needed to gather supplies and help with measuring.
Materials Needed:
- Cornstarch
- Water
- Food Coloring (optional)
- Bowl
Directions:
- Put 1 cup of cornstarch in a bowl
- Slowly add ½ cup of water (consistency like pancake batter)
- Observe what happens (stick your hand in the mixture)
Questions & Provocations:
- How does it feel?
- Pick up a handful and squeeze it. When you stop squeezing what happens? Does it drip through your fingers?
- Is it a liquid or solid?
