Ideal for Preschool/Pre-K, School-Age

Young girl coloring with a red marker.

This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to develop a sense of identity and belonging.

Materials Needed:

  • None

Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.

  1. Have a conversation about experts in your neighborhood (e.g., bakers are expert pastry makers, police are experts at keeping people safe).
  2. Ask your kids to teach you something they’re an expert at. Maybe it’s making macaroni and cheese, doing a cartwheel, or finding bugs in the backyard.
  3. Follow their directions and allow them to teach you their skill.

Extension: Share a skill you’re an expert at and teach them. Determine a new skill to develop expertise in and encourage your child to learn it so they can teach you or work on it together
