
This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to use their senses to explore and interact with the world and understand and use a growing vocabulary.
Materials Needed:
- Splish Splash Ducky by Lucy Cousins
Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.
Directions:
- Read the story or watch and listen at the link above. After you finish the story, say, “I remember a lot of animals in that story. I remember swans, ducks, and worms. Do you remember any animals?” Listen encouragingly to your child’s response.
- Go for a walk or step into your backyard. Look for animals from the story, e.g., ducks, worms, slugs, or butterflies. Count how many animals from the story you can find.
- Point out birds and other animals that weren’t part of the story.
