Going on a Trip Pretend Play
Ideal for Preschool/Pre-K
This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to demonstrate use of creativity and imagination in learning and play.
- Bench or chairs
- Small bag
- Pieces of paper
- Writing implement
Participants: This activity is intended for 2 or more participants/players.
- Put the chairs or benches together to resemble seats on a bus, train, or plane.
- Tell your child that you’re going on a pretend trip. Where what you like to go? What will you need to take? You can stretch the decision-making process out as long as your child is interested. Look at a map or think about loved ones you’d like to visit. Gather a few items necessary for your trip and place them in the bag.
- Show your child how to make tickets on the pieces of paper. The tickets can include the passenger’s name and the destination. Your child can write the words or draw pictures with your help.
- Board the pretend vehicle. One person can be the driver or pilot, while other people are passengers. Switch places.
Learn More: How else can you extend play? Perhaps your child would like to make a list of things to do when she reaches her destination or write a story about his trip. Maybe you can create a pretend restaurant with menus to eat while on vacation.
