Flashlight Game

Ideal for Infant, Toddler

A bright flashlight illuminates the room | Bright Horizons | Flashlight Activities | Daycare

This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to use their senses to explore and interact with the environment.

Materials Needed:

  • Flashlight

Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.

  1. Sit with your child outdoors or indoors in the evening. Ensure that the environment is dark enough to see a flashlight’s beam.
  2. Turn on the flashlight. Shine it on the floor in front of your child. Say, “Can you catch the light?” and let your child reach for it. Move the beam a few inches away so your child can catch it again. Repeat the process, moving the beam to a new area each time.
  3. For older toddlers, shine the flashlight on a wall and encourage your toddler to jump or run to catch it. Babies can try crawling or toddling to catch the light. Observe your child’s reaction and position the light so it offers a challenge without being frustrating.
